Sniwt and the Kuyumads
Indie Rock, OPM, Eclectic fusion
Emerging from San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, Sniwt and the Kuyumads are a five-piece band finding their footing in the local OPM scene. The band grew out of a passion project started by a doctor with a love for rock music, who initially brought together young musicians from his church, including guitarist Sean Trinidad. In late 2023, a chance meeting with visual artist Edwin Tres Reyes during a medical mission led to an unexpected discovery: Edwin and his twin daughters, Andrea and Yciar, had been making music together for years but had never released anything. Andrea soon joined as the band’s vocalist, with Yciar on bass. As the project developed, the lineup continued to take shape. Jason Ureta, originally brought in as a sessionist and mentor after two of the original members left, eventually became one of the band’s guitarists. Yohan Pamilacan later joined on drums, while Dhenzel Mendoza would eventually take over the position. The current lineup consists of twin sisters Andrea (vocals) and Yciar Tres Reyes (bass), alongside Jason Ureta and Sean Trinidad (guitars) and Dhenzel Mendoza (drums). With each member bringing something different to the table, Sniwt and the Kuyumads aren't interested in staying within one lane. Their music moves through blues, rock, pop, rockabilly, and alternative influences, but no single genre defines their sound. Instead, every song is shaped by its own character and story, with memorable hooks, shifting textures, and an instinct to let each idea become whatever it needs to be. Their influences come from different eras and corners of music, but the band is less interested in sounding like any one of them than in seeing where those influences take them. The band began performing through school tours as part of a mental health awareness campaign before moving into local gigs and eventually producing and releasing original music independently. Their debut single, “Prinsesa Laura,” marked their first step toward sharing their songs beyond the stages where they started. Since then, they have continued writing, recording, and performing while building a growing community around their music. Still finding their footing, Sniwt and the Kuyumads are carving out their own space in the OPM scene, one song at a time.
