Better Silence is an independent Filipino post-hardcore band that originally formed in Lucena City, Quezon Province in April 2022. The group was initially conceived under the moniker "Set Sail" before guitarist Sky Cabiles coined the current name, which was derived from the reflective Tagalog philosophy "Mas mabuting manahimik na lang" (It is better to be silent). Born out of a tight-knit local music scene where the musicians had crossed paths for years, the band established a baseline chemistry that allowed them to quickly transition from a raw local project into a compelling, unified voice in the regional underground circuit.Musically, the group defies simple categorization by seamlessly blending post-hardcore, alternative indie, and experimental rock into a cohesive sonic identity. A defining characteristic of their style is the extensive use of delayed, layered guitar riffs that create spacious, atmospheric textures, anchoring their driving rhythm sections with rich, melancholic melodies. Rather than relying strictly on conventional rock arrangements, the band experiments with shifting song structures to balance explosive outbursts of heavy, emotional energy with delicate, quiet interludes. This distinct combination of calculated post-hardcore instrumentation and alternative rock accessibility allows them to continuously push the boundaries of their sound.The band's complex sound draws heavily from a mix of international post-hardcore pioneers, progressive acts, and local Filipino rock icons. They look to foundational global heavyweights like Thursday, Underoath, Saosin, and Alexisonfire, while channeling the nostalgic emo and alternative metal energies of the Deftones, A Perfect Circle and Chevelle.They are also deeply inspired by the progressive, boundary-pushing arrangements of The Mars Volta and the intense technicality of premier Filipino post-hardcore bands like Faspitch. These diverse inputs allow them to successfully merge mid-2000s emotional hardcore aesthetics with modern technical precision.Since their inception, the band has achieved several notable milestones within the independent music community, anchored by the release of their bold debut single, "Disease," in October 2022. The experimental track put the band on the map, earning them widespread acclaim and features on alternative curation networks like the Anti Pop Punk Pop Punk Club Official Page. Their growing underground profile eventually secured them broader radio exposure, culminating in their music being featured on Metro Manila’s prominent Jam 88.3 FM radio show, Off The Grid. Furthermore, they have cemented their reputation as a formidable live act by performing at local underground events, including Knowhere Production, Aurora Production & Gibaan Production and advocacy-driven showcases like the Music Against Corruption concert.At the core of their songwriting lies a profound dedication to capturing raw human experiences and societal issues.
